You know me....my life....nothing but work work work.....therefore, it was a surprise to me when I chanced upon this video on YouTube.com showing David Allen giving the folks behind Google.com a talk about Getting Things Done (guess the guys in Google were having ineffective days just like the rest of us, huh?). I have to say it's really REALLY interesting and whatever he shared was, although nothing new, was stuff that you forgot to think about. He peels off layer by layer, one by one, slowly and languidly all the tips on why we're not getting things done as quickly as we should be and how to go about it. I particularly like the part where he said that our minds should be like water....fluid and react just like it without pre-reacting to it. Accept it, flow with it, then back to calm.
David Allen is an exceptional speaker and I believe that Google probably paid an arm and a leg for his talk. And damn, he's funny too! Do yourself a favor, watch this video and learn something new today. If he's good enough for Google guys, it's good enough for you.
(At least, Google isn't selfish about the video. They paid for it and posted it into YouTube to help people like you and me!)
When asked what’s my one single favorite thing to do in the world, I would usually name a whole list of things that I love to do when my work is not screaming at me. Something that takes my mind COMPLETELY off of everyday tasks and relaxes me. Take a guess what it is…. If you say ‘ reading ’, yes, I love reading (especially soppy love stories with lots of sex scenes, please. Hee hee hee ….) and I also love mystery novels but it’s not the first on the list. If you say ‘ playing the piano ’; yes, I love playing the piano. Creating forms a huge part of my life and whenever I play the piano (as inept at it as I am), there’s this tiny little girl inside of me jumping up and down with glee, clapping her hands. It’s my childhood dream to be able to play the piano! And thumping on the keys gives me a sense of satisfaction when I hear the music. If you say ‘ writing ’; You’ve got to be kidding me! You mean I don’t write enough as it is? Case closed. If you say ‘ playing with my kids ’; Yea...
