Spidey Brand New Day!

We planned a dinner, Korean Dinner, of course, before a family midnight movie night so, we ate really cheap for lunch. Easy ones we got from a local kopitiam - kolo mee, pork chop rice, and mixed rice. That...we did. We knew we were gonna be spending quite a bit for the movie night and 'birthday dinner' but man-oh-man, we've been looking forward to the Spiderman - a Brand New Day !!! No, don't worry, there will be no spoiler and I won't tell you what the plot is going to be like, but I think you would have seen those trailers and guess how the movie started out and basic plot line.  The Korean dinner was absolutely delicious and portion was good! The restaurant had a lot of positive reviews from some real-life reviewers. Too bad I did not take any pictures, in hindsight. I called and booked a table ahead of time because we've been disappointed before for our birthday dinners when I assumed there will be a table for us.  Imagine when we looked forward to an Eat-A...

Crash Course in Romance (2023) - Kdrama Review

Source: FanGirlVerdict I seriously don't know why I am watching this series -  Crash Course in Romance  - it came up as one of the recommended Kdramas of 2023 for some reason.  First of all, it's about something I am absolutely not interested in - pushing kids towards academic excellence. There's nothing wrong with encouraging smart students to perform to the best of their abilities in schools but, this show highlights the worst that can come out such mentality.   They have something like  Star Student Parents' Secret Association ;  Star Celebrity Teachers  who are command an insane number of fans amongst students and parents; unreasonable expectations from parents; stressful situations kids and parents have to go through just to excel in school.  These are just the kinds of things I am absolutely against.  When it comes to academics, I've never once forced my kids to do anything that is not of interest to them or outside of the...

We Are Peaceful Brothers (2017) Series Review

Source: Link First off, I am not familiar with this format. 4 mins per episode... what ? Isn't the norm an hour per episode? Rough start. But I can tell you if you're looking for something lighthearted with a lot of bromance (like real-brothers-mance?) and some romance (with a female, not the BL thing that's so popular these days - I don't get it), this could be it.  I've read about many people from the webtoon not liking the ending...erm...don't let me spoil it for you. But it kinda hinted at a follow-up which I suspect will never happen . But is it still worth watching?  Absolutely. Why? Because it's simple . It's to-the-point. It's short. It won't take you much time to digest everything.  It's an endearing story about brothers living together, their obvious personality differences, and big age gap.  First of all, there's a bit of an age gap between the brothers. One's 26, the younger one is 18 and still in school. So, when he found...

Passionate Goodbye: Psy featuring Sung Si Kyung

I've made it known multiple times, including with my boys that Sung Si Kyung is tops for me as far as singers are concerned. There are also people like Michael Buble, Adam Levine (despite his notoriety for unwholesome lyrics - lol), Ed Sheeran, and old-school crooners like James Ingram and Kenny Loggins, they're my favorite singers of all time.  I dare say whatever songs they sing, I am behind it.  Other singers are Lea Salonga, Regine Valesquez, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Kirsten Bell, (although she's technically not a singer), Karen Carpenter, Alicia Keys, Chris Martin, Adam Levine...and many, many more. There's Aretha Franklin, Jewel, and so many more. These were the singers who motivated me. Another two singers I can name include Kim Tae Woo and RAIN. Last but not least, it's Debbie Gibson, Tiffany, and Kylie Minogue.  This is really hard because I have so many singers and bands and I want to name...for instance Maroon 5, Beatles, New Kids on the Block, Jaso...

The Sound of Magic (Review) (Netflix Series)

I didn't quite buy the musical element of the show in the beginning and thought of it as a failure from the get-go, not even planning to move forward with the 2nd episode. If not for Ji Chang Wook (and Netflix's autoplay function), I would not have moved beyond the first episode. Cheesy much. Highschool Musical much. Fake much. Not good singing much.  Sorry, I digress.  The series did not expand much about The Magician played by Ji Chang Wook, I guess to keep things mystical.  Thankfully, perspective was given to the lives of the two students who were affected by The Magician. As the teens began to accept the wonder that The Magician was bringing into their lives, we, the viewers, are left wondering....'So...was that real or what?'. Is he real or what? Is he crazy or what? Are they ALL crazy or what? The last few series I watched left bitter tastes in my mouth because of their inconclusive endings and dissatisfying storytelling so, I didn't want to embark on somethi...

The School Nurse Files (Series Review) (Netflix)

For some strange reason, I really love the concept, the idea, the actors, the CGI....but there's something inherently wrong with the script, pacing, music choice, or maybe it was the direction. I am a simple movie-goer, a consumer, not a producer but that's the feeling I got when watching, sometimes impatiently, this mini series.  It is trying to tell a story in an unconventional way, it's still odd. Off. Weird. Off kilter.  I love Jung Yu Mi, and she is known to make the strange choices when it comes to characters and stories. I guess this aligns right up with her although I am not sure who convinced Nam Joo Hyuk to take up this role.  Jung Yu Mi delivered as expected...in her own in-your-face way and I thought Nam Joo Hyuk did a rather fine job here too. Heck, even the students did really well! I can't imagine the kind of imaginative world they all had to live in in order to do the weird things they were told to do for the series. LOL. The show made almost zero a...

The Flat Share - Beth O'Leary (Book Review)

I've been reading like I've never read before. The past week was just me with my nose buried in one book after another. I read John Grisham's Camino Winds and it was...er....not as expected? I mean, it was awful. It was.  So, I am not going to share what I think about it here.  After the disappointing and confusing fiction novel by Grisham, I decided to pick something light instead - The Flat Share by Beth of Leary. Sounds like a rom-com I can enjoy without too much judgment.  The Flat Share - Beth O'Leary It was a good idea.  The premise was a little weird, granted, we don't have a bed-share practice here in Malaysia. I don't know of anyone who would be willing to share their flat/bed with a stranger they've never met, really. Not even when I am really desperate for money.  Putting personal 'thoughts' and 'common sense' aside (please enlighten me if this is common in your country or culture), it kind of makes sense for a (male) nurse who wor...

Movie: Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (Review)

4/5 Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐   Why I Watched It Tony Leung. That was why I decided to watch Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings because I have no idea who this character is or was or will be. All I know is that I saw Tony Leung being interviewed on Youtube, and I thought...erm, OK, it's been some time since I watched him on the big screen, so, yeah, sure.  And also, Fala Chen. She spoke about this on Instagram a while back when she was interviewed by 9gag, I think.  Since I am a sucker for spoilers, I watched all trailers and as many footages of the movie before going. LOL. I want to know what I am in for.  How It Went Like...wow? Many people are suckers for bad-ass kungfu stuff (I also loved the Tai-chi parts) but I am NOT one of those.  The movie was nicely-paced, considering it was an origin story that needed to paint the right picture for follow-ups. It told the story well. The audience had the time and breadth to FEEL, actually FEEL not just glimpse, the chara...
