Crash Course in Romance (2023) - Kdrama Review

Source: FanGirlVerdict I seriously don't know why I am watching this series -  Crash Course in Romance  - it came up as one of the recommended Kdramas of 2023 for some reason.  First of all, it's about something I am absolutely not interested in - pushing kids towards academic excellence. There's nothing wrong with encouraging smart students to perform to the best of their abilities in schools but, this show highlights the worst that can come out such mentality.   They have something like  Star Student Parents' Secret Association ;  Star Celebrity Teachers  who are command an insane number of fans amongst students and parents; unreasonable expectations from parents; stressful situations kids and parents have to go through just to excel in school.  These are just the kinds of things I am absolutely against.  When it comes to academics, I've never once forced my kids to do anything that is not of interest to them or outside of the...

We Are Peaceful Brothers (2017) Series Review

Source: Link First off, I am not familiar with this format. 4 mins per episode... what ? Isn't the norm an hour per episode? Rough start. But I can tell you if you're looking for something lighthearted with a lot of bromance (like real-brothers-mance?) and some romance (with a female, not the BL thing that's so popular these days - I don't get it), this could be it.  I've read about many people from the webtoon not liking the ending...erm...don't let me spoil it for you. But it kinda hinted at a follow-up which I suspect will never happen . But is it still worth watching?  Absolutely. Why? Because it's simple . It's to-the-point. It's short. It won't take you much time to digest everything.  It's an endearing story about brothers living together, their obvious personality differences, and big age gap.  First of all, there's a bit of an age gap between the brothers. One's 26, the younger one is 18 and still in school. So, when he found...

Queen For Seven Days (2017) - KDrama Review

I cried so much watching this drama that I swear my heart will never heal again. LOL To start with, it's Joseon era so, things are different from what they are now. And you have to watch it with this mindset. First of all, let's give a shout-out to the actors.  Park Min Young - I'm not her biggest fan but for some reason, she always deliver the best chemistry with her co-stars. So, I have to give her the salute. I don't know how she does it. Does she do some MBTI test on her co-stars before she says 'yes' to a show? From the start to the end, she is on point through happy and sad times.  Yeon Woo Jin - I've only watched one show with him in it and it's Introverted Boss. He was VERY VERY VERY VERY different there. So, his performance here knocked my socks off. Oh, I had a quick glimpse of his acting in Thirty-Nine (one of the latest Netflix series with none other than Son Ye Jin) and it's also very, very, very, VERY different from his performance here...

The Sound of Magic (Review) (Netflix Series)

I didn't quite buy the musical element of the show in the beginning and thought of it as a failure from the get-go, not even planning to move forward with the 2nd episode. If not for Ji Chang Wook (and Netflix's autoplay function), I would not have moved beyond the first episode. Cheesy much. Highschool Musical much. Fake much. Not good singing much.  Sorry, I digress.  The series did not expand much about The Magician played by Ji Chang Wook, I guess to keep things mystical.  Thankfully, perspective was given to the lives of the two students who were affected by The Magician. As the teens began to accept the wonder that The Magician was bringing into their lives, we, the viewers, are left wondering....'So...was that real or what?'. Is he real or what? Is he crazy or what? Are they ALL crazy or what? The last few series I watched left bitter tastes in my mouth because of their inconclusive endings and dissatisfying storytelling so, I didn't want to embark on somethi...

Becoming - Michelle Obama (Book Review)

I have to admit that when I started reading 'Becoming', I didn't get it . I didn't get her . She was someone you envied in school, she was driven , she achieved things you wish you could, she's active , and she's a high achiever . She's a perfectionist .  I can't say I was anything like that at all.  I pursue things that made me happy and brought me joy. So, I was girding myself for the worst...like, oh no, I don't like Michelle Obama . LOL. via GIPHY But as I continued reading, her love for her family really struck a chord. I will probably never really understand the kind of neighborhood she was living in and her family predicament but I can understand the love.  Education was important to me, but it wasn't  THE most influential aspect of my teenage life. I didn't pursue it with the level of vengeance she did because she came from a different place.  If people talked bad about her talking about supporting black communities, then they...

The School Nurse Files (Series Review) (Netflix)

For some strange reason, I really love the concept, the idea, the actors, the CGI....but there's something inherently wrong with the script, pacing, music choice, or maybe it was the direction. I am a simple movie-goer, a consumer, not a producer but that's the feeling I got when watching, sometimes impatiently, this mini series.  It is trying to tell a story in an unconventional way, it's still odd. Off. Weird. Off kilter.  I love Jung Yu Mi, and she is known to make the strange choices when it comes to characters and stories. I guess this aligns right up with her although I am not sure who convinced Nam Joo Hyuk to take up this role.  Jung Yu Mi delivered as expected...in her own in-your-face way and I thought Nam Joo Hyuk did a rather fine job here too. Heck, even the students did really well! I can't imagine the kind of imaginative world they all had to live in in order to do the weird things they were told to do for the series. LOL. The show made almost zero a...

The Short Hair Scandal

Except for a short period of my life where I donned long hair (which was mightily unkempt), I've mostly sported the short or bob hair cut. I just didn't have the time to deal with the straightening, curling, or whatever it is that women are required to do before they get out of the house to buy a bag of salt from the grocery store.  I've wanted to write something about how An San, a rising archer from South Korea,  got flack for sporting a short crop . Despite her performing with near stellar perfection.  How is having short hair a sign or declaration of anti-men?  Are men who wear their hair long anti-women, then? I don't even know where this is going because it doesn't even make sense. LOL. Short hair is simply easier to manage. The flip side is that if you have to attend a gala or a big event, short hair is even harder to style! PLUS, some women just look fantabulous with a short crop! Miley Cyrus , Katie Holmes , Michelle Williams , Meg Ryan , Natalie Portman , ...
