We planned a dinner, Korean Dinner, of course, before a family midnight movie night so, we ate really cheap for lunch. Easy ones we got from a local kopitiam - kolo mee, pork chop rice, and mixed rice. That...we did. We knew we were gonna be spending quite a bit for the movie night and 'birthday dinner' but man-oh-man, we've been looking forward to the Spiderman - a Brand New Day !!! No, don't worry, there will be no spoiler and I won't tell you what the plot is going to be like, but I think you would have seen those trailers and guess how the movie started out and basic plot line.  The Korean dinner was absolutely delicious and portion was good! The restaurant had a lot of positive reviews from some real-life reviewers. Too bad I did not take any pictures, in hindsight. There's nothing wrong with encouraging smart students to perform to the best of their abilities in schools but, this show highlights the worst that can come out such mentality.   They have something like  Star Student Parents' Secret Association ;  Star Celebrity Teachers  who are command an insane number of fans amongst students and parents; unreasonable expectations from parents; stressful situations kids and parents have to go through just to excel in school.  These are just the kinds of things I am absolutely against.  When it comes to academics, I've never once forced my kids to do anything that is not of interest to them or outside of the...

I cried so much watching this drama that I swear my heart will never heal again. LOL To start with, it's Joseon era so, things are different from what they are now. And you have to watch it with this mindset. First of all, let's give a shout-out to the actors.  Park Min Young - I'm not her biggest fan but for some reason, she always deliver the best chemistry with her co-stars. So, I have to give her the salute. I don't know how she does it. Does she do some MBTI test on her co-stars before she says 'yes' to a show? From the start to the end, she is on point through happy and sad times.  Yeon Woo Jin - I've only watched one show with him in it and it's Introverted Boss. He was VERY VERY VERY VERY different there. So, his performance here knocked my socks off. Oh, I had a quick glimpse of his acting in Thirty-Nine (one of the latest Netflix series with none other than Son Ye Jin) and it's also very, very, very, VERY different from his performance here...

This is the kind of conversation I have with myself whenever I have to muster up the strength to cook dinner or lunch.  Me: It's a good thing! You're doing something healthy and great for the family! I didn't quite buy the musical element of the show in the beginning and thought of it as a failure from the get-go, not even planning to move forward with the 2nd episode. If not for Ji Chang Wook (and Netflix's autoplay function), I would not have moved beyond the first episode. Cheesy much. Highschool Musical much. Fake much. Not good singing much.  Sorry, I digress.  The series did not expand much about The Magician played by Ji Chang Wook, I guess to keep things mystical.  Thankfully, perspective was given to the lives of the two students who were affected by The Magician. As the teens began to accept the wonder that The Magician was bringing into their lives, we, the viewers, are left wondering....'So...was that real or what?'. Is he real or what? Is he crazy or what?   I was browsing my social media feed while watching  The Great Battle , touted to be the next big thing to hit cinemas when it hit the cinemas in 2018. It starred some of my favorite people in the world and I was getting tired of watching TV series and movies with stupid sad endings (sorry, I am a fan of happy endings, LOL.  It stars Jo In Sung, Nam Joo Hyuk, Park Sung Woong, Stephanie Lee, and even Seol-Hyun. A reputable cast, I would say.  And since I was already on social media, why not? I got on Tiktok.  So, here you go.   For some strange reason, I really love the concept, the idea, the actors, the CGI....but there's something inherently wrong with the script, pacing, music choice, or maybe it was the direction. I am a simple movie-goer, a consumer, not a producer but that's the feeling I got when watching, sometimes impatiently, this mini series.  It is trying to tell a story in an unconventional way, it's still odd. Off. Weird. Off kilter.  I love Jung Yu Mi, and she is known to make the strange choices when it comes to characters and stories. I guess this aligns right up with her although I am not sure who convinced Nam Joo Hyuk to take up this role.  Jung Yu Mi delivered as expected...in her own in-your-face way and I thought Nam Joo Hyuk did a rather fine job here too. 4/5 Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐   Why I Watched It Tony Leung. That was why I decided to watch Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings because I have no idea who this character is or was or will be. All I know is that I saw Tony Leung being interviewed on Youtube, and I thought...erm, OK, it's been some time since I watched him on the big screen, so, yeah, sure.  And also, Fala Chen.
