It's time to stop being stupid

One of my biggest faults (or virtue) is selflessness. I am not saying that I am a saint but when I have to choose between 'for the good of loved ones' and 'for the good of myself', I always pick the former and this has created immense, intense, tremendously over-stretched pain for myself. I've been told time and time again that if I don't think and act on behalf of myself, no one else in this world would....and yet, I continue to be caught in this loop whereby I place myself last on the list of priorities and continue to do things for the benefit of others. My principle is simple...if you can, then do it lor. I try not to be too calculative in life because I heard that it shortens your life. But not being calculative is not equivalent to me having to stoop to a level whereby it becomes easy to label me a stupid bimbo, right? So, I would like you to picture me as Arnold Schwarzenegger saying this....NO MORE MISTER NICE GUY.

That's what women are really. Selfless creatures. We're conditioned like that. But you must take some ME time. Go for something you truly enjoy. I love my foot reflexology sessions, once a fortnight. Also, a Japanese lunch. Take care of yourself first. You know those airplane advice if the oxygen mask falls from the top? Put it on yourself FIRST before you put it on your kids. If you don't take care of yourself, who takes care of the kids?

maya, you're right about that! I stopped being so focused on others for some time now. But I've begun this vicious cycle again....so, this serves as a reminder that it's OK to be selfish sometimes.

A Liberating Activity - Guess What Mine Is....

When asked what’s my one single favorite thing to do in the world, I would usually name a whole list of things that I love to do when my work is not screaming at me. Something that takes my mind COMPLETELY off of everyday tasks and relaxes me. Take a guess what it is…. If you say ‘ reading ’, yes, I love reading (especially soppy love stories with lots of sex scenes, please. Hee hee hee ….) and I also love mystery novels but it’s not the first on the list. If you say ‘ playing the piano ’; yes, I love playing the piano. Creating forms a huge part of my life and whenever I play the piano (as inept at it as I am), there’s this tiny little girl inside of me jumping up and down with glee, clapping her hands. It’s my childhood dream to be able to play the piano! And thumping on the keys gives me a sense of satisfaction when I hear the music. If you say ‘ writing ’; You’ve got to be kidding me! You mean I don’t write enough as it is? Case closed. If you say ‘ playing with my kids ’; Yea...

Maid Side-Kick

I was kind of a little sad when I read the news about this - there will be no live-in Indonesian maids in Malaysia anymore . There are pros and cons to having a live-in maid, as with everything else, but for us, we enjoyed more pros than cons. Back then, when my kids were little, we brought in a family of maids to help with...well, just about everything, and we were like two families merged into one. They ate what we ate, we sleep, they sleep, we shop, they shop, they joke, we laugh, we joke, they laugh...for me, the maid I hired was more like a sister and side-kick to me. For that few years, I was dependent on her to mind-read my schedule and when I need or don't need help. She picked things up quickly and we ended up having lots of moments whereby we were in sync. Today, two of them are on my Facebook and we were gleefully chatting over Facebook Messenger since they've just discovered the wonders of the Internet and Social Media. Since we were more like partners in crim...

Recipe :Pumpkin Carrot Soup

Updated this post with a real picture. Ever since, Son 2 saw me buying some local pumpkin, he's been suggesting this for the longest time. I wish I took a picture of the mushroom soup I made the day before. Edit: I did the mushroom soup recipe a bit earlier) + meatballs and pasta ) I didn't but I will do it the next time I make it. It was absolutely heavenly.  But anyway, these were more or less the ingredients I used and the way I made it.  I made it using the crock pot/slow cooker over a couple of hours because it's an easy and lazy way to melt everything down. Unlike Chinese soups, we just need to cook everything down and then blend everything, and I mean everything , except the juices, down to a pulp.  Before the final serving, just add in as much cooking cream as you want. This is subjective and based on your personal preference.  I don't think AI can recreate the images above. Hehehehe.....
