Reaching Out When You Need Help

UPDATE: Sigh...another one. It's so sad to see that another's bitten the dust. There should be more awareness and help offered to people who have to deal with depression. It's a sickness that blinds the mind, infects the soul and cripples a person so completely that we need to get them help. For instance, a Buddy System. Team a depressed person up with someone chronically happy for no apparent reason should help. This update is due to news of Marie Osmond's son, Micheal, who decided to take his final leap off his apartment building in LA recently.

Growing Pains used to be one of my favorite shows in the world and although I don't particularly remember Andrew Koenig very well from that show, to learn about his suicide still struck me dumb. And that is because I had a friend who committed suicide out of the friggin' blue (actually, I have had quite a number of friends who opted that way) and it continues to make me ask 'why?' till this very day.

But I no longer want to find an answer. But it was probably emotional pain = depression. This is one of the better guesses. The others include stuff like pontianak, being possessed...etc.:-)

Anyway, I just want everyone to know that no one is an island. There is always help and all we need to do is to drop our ego and reach out. People will help us through tough times. This is when family and friends come in...they are so willing to help!

Suicide is a very selfish thing to choose, so, no...it is not an option.

My friends and I used to think to ourselves, 'He must have been friggin' brave to just leap off the building like that'. But now that I think about it, it is not bravery. It is actually a weakness and the inability to stop and say 'Hey, I need help. Can you help me?'

I hate to say things like this about dead people but I hope it sends a message out to those who face depression and kinda wanna live on and brave the storm.

RIP Andrew Koenig.

A Liberating Activity - Guess What Mine Is....

When asked what’s my one single favorite thing to do in the world, I would usually name a whole list of things that I love to do when my work is not screaming at me. Something that takes my mind COMPLETELY off of everyday tasks and relaxes me. Take a guess what it is…. If you say ‘ reading ’, yes, I love reading (especially soppy love stories with lots of sex scenes, please. Hee hee hee ….) and I also love mystery novels but it’s not the first on the list. If you say ‘ playing the piano ’; yes, I love playing the piano. Creating forms a huge part of my life and whenever I play the piano (as inept at it as I am), there’s this tiny little girl inside of me jumping up and down with glee, clapping her hands. It’s my childhood dream to be able to play the piano! And thumping on the keys gives me a sense of satisfaction when I hear the music. If you say ‘ writing ’; You’ve got to be kidding me! You mean I don’t write enough as it is? Case closed. If you say ‘ playing with my kids ’; Yea...

At Camp 5, 1 Utama: Kids' Rescue Mission

The kids had a wonderfully exciting day today. Now, this is as extreme as this mother is going to get. Mommy goes Paintball, kids go mountain-climbing...I think I've fulfilled the criteria of offering my kids a fun and exciting life as a kid. :-) It was one of their friends' birthday party and they're a little bored of KidzSports...that's for BABIES, anyway, they say. So, off to Camp 5 then, says the birthday boy's mother. Camp 5 in 1 Utama is located near Neways Karaoke, for those who have never been there before. It's a neat little corner tucked up on the roof of the massive shopping complex. Anyway, the kids had tons of fun although a little apprhensive when they saw how high the 'rock' was. It's actually quite neat and if I didn't feel like throwing up whenever up on higher grounds, I would have wanted to try it as well. The highlight of this party came in the form of a rescue mission. As we all know, when one is frighte...

Demanding a Balanced Lifestyle

We live in a world choked with demands….demand for more money, better lifestyle, more holidays, smarter kids, bigger house, posher cars….etc. People walk around with spiritually unimportant goals in their minds driven by the need to succeed and be better than others around them. Hong Kong. South Korea. Japan. Most Asian countries suffer from this ill-fate which have caused a horrific rise in the number of suicide rates in the said countries. Malaysia is no exception as well although we’re very slowly gaining ground on our neighbors. Just picking up my son from school can become a stressful affair. I’ve mentioned this to a few friends of mine over the phone and all of them cluck their tongue shake their head. It’s end of the year and the kids are getting their test results back by now. I overheard a couple of tai-tais (housewives) gripe about their kids’ results. Mom: I don’t know-lah. My kid did not do very well this term. The best also got 95 only. (NINETY FIVE ONLY???) ...
