It's strange but before I became a mom, I never thought much about coupons. Even the 'free personal pizza' coupons from Dominos for late deliveries did not impress me.
Every single little loyalty redemption card I received was relegated to my jeans back pocket which would either spend a couple of hours being washed into mush in the washing machine (eek!) or forgotten about.
The strange thing about marketing and commercialism these days is that everyone's offering you something in return for your repeat business. If you use apps, there will be free shipping, discount days, and DISCOUNTCODES. Sometimes, you'll get a further incentive for hashtagging them on social media.
Oh, the wonderful ways to save a couple of cents...or bucks, depending on the company.
I was doing some math a while ago (which should be done more regularly) and I was surprised by the amount of money, as small as it was individually, that I actually saved by grabbing those promises of cashback, free deliveries, and discount days!
Just the other day, I saved RM50 of groceries from all that QR code flashing that I've been doing at Village Grocer. It's a little cumbersome because every time I shopped at the store, I have to drag my phone out, pull up the app, load up the QR Code, and then flash it at the cashier before paying for the groceries.
RM50 isn't much, I know, but it paid off because free groceries, come on! #lol
I've also used my Touch'nGo quite a fair bit because...Malaysia = tolls. Since loading up the app, I've been paying for my 7-11 purchases with the app and it's worked out OK since they give me everyday incentives with small little cashbacks. Nothing major but it's still nice to get something back for buying something you're already paying for, anyway, right?
If it helps you save money, no matter how rich you are, how dope your car or house is, if a business has a loyalty or redemption program (app/card), USE IT!
They're asking you for your loyalty and if they're so out-there to offer it, save the money if you can.
I have a friend who joins contests for a living and I was like WTF are you doing that for? But when you think about it, these companies, if they're legit, are supposed to live up to their promises. Make them do it.
The numbers may be small but when you get serious with counting coins, it's nice to know you're getting something back for doing something you're already doing, anyway.
Have a pleasant Friday, everyone!
Lotsa love,
