The Least Anticipated April Fools' Birthday 2015

The whole country's been going on and on about nothing else but GST, GST and GST. April 1, 2015 is the date that everyone would have to pay extra tax on top of the service tax that we are already paying. The price of (almost) everything will go up by 6% - understandably, nobody likes that kind of news. To add salt to the wound, we don't exactly know what is taxable and what isn't. It's really confusing and Malaysia has a tendency to leave its people like that.

Fun. lol

It's, however, my kids' and mom's birthday.....and everyone (in my country) hates it.

Anyway, had a massive meat-packed BBQ dinner the night before April 1 and then on the day itself, had another packed meal for their birthday too. Not sure why but there is no celebration of any other sort this year. They are OK with that, not every year has to be like gold flakes, confetti and fireworks. They know that most people go to school on their birthdays, work on their birthdays, are treated no special on their birthdays or suffer or go through pain on their birthdays. They know that so, they, being the sweet kids that they are, are just happy with all the well wishes....and FOOD!

The 3 birthday people. And yes, all three of them have Apr 1 birthdays...on the dot. No, it's not a joke.

When did they grow up so tall and big? Such big guys I have.

Maid Side-Kick

I was kind of a little sad when I read the news about this - there will be no live-in Indonesian maids in Malaysia anymore . There are pros and cons to having a live-in maid, as with everything else, but for us, we enjoyed more pros than cons. Back then, when my kids were little, we brought in a family of maids to help with...well, just about everything, and we were like two families merged into one. They ate what we ate, we sleep, they sleep, we shop, they shop, they joke, we laugh, we joke, they laugh...for me, the maid I hired was more like a sister and side-kick to me. For that few years, I was dependent on her to mind-read my schedule and when I need or don't need help. She picked things up quickly and we ended up having lots of moments whereby we were in sync. Today, two of them are on my Facebook and we were gleefully chatting over Facebook Messenger since they've just discovered the wonders of the Internet and Social Media. Recipe :Pumpkin Carrot Soup

Updated this post with a real picture. Ever since, Son 2 saw me buying some local pumpkin, he's been suggesting this for the longest time. I wish I took a picture of the mushroom soup I made the day before. Edit: I did the mushroom soup recipe a bit earlier) + meatballs and pasta ) I didn't but I will do it the next time I make it. It was absolutely heavenly.  But anyway, these were more or less the ingredients I used and the way I made it.  I made it using the crock pot/slow cooker over a couple of hours because it's an easy and lazy way to melt everything down. Unlike Chinese soups, we just need to cook everything down and then blend everything, and I mean everything , except the juices, down to a pulp.  Before the final serving, just add in as much cooking cream as you want. This is subjective and based on your personal preference.  I don't think AI can recreate the images above. Hehehehe.....
