Not-So-Creative In The Kitchen

I like to get creative in the kitchen sometimes, as mentioned, it is probably the only time I get to think out of the box.

It's like this - How about NOT using oyster sauce, instead try the Abalone OYSTER SAUCE? I know. Huh?!! :-) No, but at the very least I get to mix and match some ingredients so that it doesn't taste exactly like yesterday's dinner.

But for some reason today, I have absolutely no desire to get creative. The day started off fine, mind you, but after a while, the joy began waned. Maybe I am dead-tired sleepy. Maybe I just need a beer.

Or maybe it has something to do with the political scene in Malaysia whereby a politician received a death threat and a live bullet in his mail yesterday. This is dirty-dirty work, man. Although I do not favor anger and violence, I believe that one should face up to someone we don't agree with if we don't agree with them. Then have it out in words. Only people who are afraid of losing resort to name-calling, hair-pulling and threat-sending.

Anyway, that's not what this post is about.

I just find it funny that I don't feel very creative in the kitchen today. Everything is a little FML at the moment.

It's funny, you know. Some months back, someone offered me a lucrative writing job for *project not to be named because it is very political*. And now, I am being offered a writing job again...but more neutral this time.

Funny how life is. :-)

A Liberating Activity - Guess What Mine Is....

When asked what’s my one single favorite thing to do in the world, I would usually name a whole list of things that I love to do when my work is not screaming at me. Something that takes my mind COMPLETELY off of everyday tasks and relaxes me. Take a guess what it is…. If you say ‘ reading ’, yes, I love reading (especially soppy love stories with lots of sex scenes, please. Hee hee hee ….) and I also love mystery novels but it’s not the first on the list. If you say ‘ playing the piano ’; yes, I love playing the piano. Creating forms a huge part of my life and whenever I play the piano (as inept at it as I am), there’s this tiny little girl inside of me jumping up and down with glee, clapping her hands. It’s my childhood dream to be able to play the piano! And thumping on the keys gives me a sense of satisfaction when I hear the music. If you say ‘ writing ’; You’ve got to be kidding me! You mean I don’t write enough as it is? Case closed. If you say ‘ playing with my kids ’; Yea...

Maid Side-Kick

I was kind of a little sad when I read the news about this - there will be no live-in Indonesian maids in Malaysia anymore . There are pros and cons to having a live-in maid, as with everything else, but for us, we enjoyed more pros than cons. Back then, when my kids were little, we brought in a family of maids to help with...well, just about everything, and we were like two families merged into one. They ate what we ate, we sleep, they sleep, we shop, they shop, they joke, we laugh, we joke, they laugh...for me, the maid I hired was more like a sister and side-kick to me. For that few years, I was dependent on her to mind-read my schedule and when I need or don't need help. She picked things up quickly and we ended up having lots of moments whereby we were in sync. Today, two of them are on my Facebook and we were gleefully chatting over Facebook Messenger since they've just discovered the wonders of the Internet and Social Media. Since we were more like partners in crim...

Recipe :Pumpkin Carrot Soup

Updated this post with a real picture. Ever since, Son 2 saw me buying some local pumpkin, he's been suggesting this for the longest time. I wish I took a picture of the mushroom soup I made the day before. Edit: I did the mushroom soup recipe a bit earlier) + meatballs and pasta ) I didn't but I will do it the next time I make it. It was absolutely heavenly.  But anyway, these were more or less the ingredients I used and the way I made it.  I made it using the crock pot/slow cooker over a couple of hours because it's an easy and lazy way to melt everything down. Unlike Chinese soups, we just need to cook everything down and then blend everything, and I mean everything , except the juices, down to a pulp.  Before the final serving, just add in as much cooking cream as you want. This is subjective and based on your personal preference.  I don't think AI can recreate the images above. Hehehehe.....
