I love being a mom, although that's not what I thought when I was growing up. There is no part of motherhood that I detest...except for the laundry, maybe. However, being a mom is one of the most difficult thing in the world.
CEOs and corporate ladder climbers, step aside. You ain't seen nothing yet. You think you have it all tough and your boss is an arse. But once you become the mother, sometimes you are the arse. Why?
Because there is an all-consuming fear and worry about the state of health and happiness of your child(ren). You want to protect them from the world. You are the protective shield between everything that is wrong in this world and your child. And you are only human. Too bad that you are only human, eh?
This instinct can destroy the best of us because when one spends so much time dealing with such extensive protective feeling, it wears you down and you forget that your own happiness and ability to relax is waning. You no longer feel like a superhuman because in this world, in this life, there ARE things that you can't prevent and protect your child from.
That worrying consumes you. Moms and dads are super beings, in my personal opinion and I am not praising myself. I am praising you if you are a parent. I am praising my parents for being the protective shield for me. I am praising every other parent out there who had to wing it in order to keep their kids safe from harm.
You don't really know what you are doing, most of the time. You are hoping, you are.
And that is the best that you can do.
