Nice Working Sunday

Sunday is a time for rest....while that is true, I think there is something to be said about taking advantage of the silence, the calm, the lack of need to hurry anywhere or do anything to just...work on stuff that's been backlogged. Call me a workaholic and I continue to stand by my decision to do a little work today. I can't sit here and watch that to-do list of mine and not do anything when the kids are out for a movie (something that I don't or CAN'T watch....Christmas Carol. Eugh! Horrors! Not even kiddie horror for me, thank you very much). As a freelance writer, every second of time that ticks by is money. And besides, I've already taken the kids mall-crawling yesterday and they had a blast playing in one of those play areas that they will SOON outgrow since all the kids there are itty-bitty little ones still learning how to walk. And I went full blast with my spending on books too yesterday. I'm telling you, the only way to break my bank account is for me to live next door to a book shop, I swear. There is no way in hell I would spend this amount on clothes. A piece of blouse costing anything more than RM20 is EXPENSIVE to me! I know...I am such a miser. I don't understand how some people can simply sign their life away for the latest fashion from some curious designer from a curious country and have shortened their names to two syllabus (unless it is naturally that way) just for the sake of marketing or branding. But all in all, I spent Sunday working on some backlogged articles. And I've also taken the time to read a little and practice the piano for a while.... T'was nice, it was.

A Liberating Activity - Guess What Mine Is....

When asked what’s my one single favorite thing to do in the world, I would usually name a whole list of things that I love to do when my work is not screaming at me. Something that takes my mind COMPLETELY off of everyday tasks and relaxes me. Take a guess what it is…. If you say ‘ reading ’, yes, I love reading (especially soppy love stories with lots of sex scenes, please. Hee hee hee ….) and I also love mystery novels but it’s not the first on the list. If you say ‘ playing the piano ’; yes, I love playing the piano. Creating forms a huge part of my life and whenever I play the piano (as inept at it as I am), there’s this tiny little girl inside of me jumping up and down with glee, clapping her hands. It’s my childhood dream to be able to play the piano! And thumping on the keys gives me a sense of satisfaction when I hear the music. If you say ‘ writing ’; You’ve got to be kidding me! You mean I don’t write enough as it is? Case closed. If you say ‘ playing with my kids ’; Yea...

At Camp 5, 1 Utama: Kids' Rescue Mission

The kids had a wonderfully exciting day today. Now, this is as extreme as this mother is going to get. Mommy goes Paintball, kids go mountain-climbing...I think I've fulfilled the criteria of offering my kids a fun and exciting life as a kid. :-) It was one of their friends' birthday party and they're a little bored of KidzSports...that's for BABIES, anyway, they say. So, off to Camp 5 then, says the birthday boy's mother. Camp 5 in 1 Utama is located near Neways Karaoke, for those who have never been there before. It's a neat little corner tucked up on the roof of the massive shopping complex. Anyway, the kids had tons of fun although a little apprhensive when they saw how high the 'rock' was. It's actually quite neat and if I didn't feel like throwing up whenever up on higher grounds, I would have wanted to try it as well. The highlight of this party came in the form of a rescue mission. As we all know, when one is frighte...

Demanding a Balanced Lifestyle

We live in a world choked with demands….demand for more money, better lifestyle, more holidays, smarter kids, bigger house, posher cars….etc. People walk around with spiritually unimportant goals in their minds driven by the need to succeed and be better than others around them. Hong Kong. South Korea. Japan. Most Asian countries suffer from this ill-fate which have caused a horrific rise in the number of suicide rates in the said countries. Malaysia is no exception as well although we’re very slowly gaining ground on our neighbors. Just picking up my son from school can become a stressful affair. I’ve mentioned this to a few friends of mine over the phone and all of them cluck their tongue shake their head. It’s end of the year and the kids are getting their test results back by now. I overheard a couple of tai-tais (housewives) gripe about their kids’ results. Mom: I don’t know-lah. My kid did not do very well this term. The best also got 95 only. (NINETY FIVE ONLY???) ...
