For the life of me, politics should never be a part of the green movement. I am very big on going green, eating organic, recycling and re-using things that I can. I am a big hater of wastage (including money) because no one benefits from it.
At the start of this year, one of my resolutions was to be even more green than I was before. And the things that I have done this year includes:-
At the start of this year, one of my resolutions was to be even more green than I was before. And the things that I have done this year includes:-
- Cooking appropriate amount of food when need to eat
- Recycle bottles and paper too. Previously, my focus was on cans
- Bring own shopping bag. My full support goes out to the state governments implementing the 'no plastic day' on Saturdays but I think the charged RM0.20 per plastic bag should go towards research and stuff like that, instead of it going into the shopping center's pockets.
- Stopped using the clothes dryer because it consumes heckuva lot of energy. Well, I use it for emergencies like...forgetting to wash kids' uniform and run out of it for tomorrow's school day. Hehehe...hey, I am human. I forget, you know?
- Donate clothes and electrical appliances that I don't want to use anymore
- Stopped using the microwave oven. Steaming food and occasionally using the oven must be a good thing, right? And besides, I've read all about all the bad things that microwaved food can do...urgh
- Went completely paperless at work and discourage kids from printing things from the computer unless they need to. My printer is here, but it's not plugged in in case I am tempted to print something out. :-) Did I mention that I am human? :-)
- I don't know if this figures in but I have also started eating organic vegetables. No, I don't get them from stores like Giant, Tesco or whatever. I get them from a wholesaler near my house. Now, these are REAL organic vegetables because they are not as big, glossy and pretty. And you will be surprised that organic food lasts so much longer than the normal veg!! Seriously! And it tells you something about all the pesticide and stuff that they use while farming, right? Thinking of having a hydroponic garden or something at home. Hhhhmmm...
One of the things that I wish I could do was to download books instead of purchasing them from the store. There's something about reading a book in your hand and the smell of a good book that I can't resist. And I still can't find a way to reduce the amount of energy my home lighting system consumes. Maybe I'll replace it with new lights or something and use it sparingly.
What about you? Have you done anything to go green yet?
